FAQs

We are an appointment only based grooming salon and do not accept walk ins. We accept appointments by phone, email, and via the online booking tool on the website.

At Pup Care by Dani, we take cleaning and sanitizing seriously. After each appointment, grooming table and bathtub are sanitized and all tools (i.e. combs, scissors, clipper blades etc.) are disinfected with Barbicide. Towels are washed after first use. The floors are disinfected daily and as needed. Mixing shampoo bottles are disinfected at the end of each day and a fresh batch of shampoo is mixed for each pet to ensure they have warm fresh shampoo for their appointment.

On your first visit you will meet your groomer who will assess your pet’s coat, go over the grooming procedure and answer any questions you may have. Please note that all new clients are required to fill out & sign an intake form prior to arrival.

Our goal is to offer a stress free environment. We let your pet sit or lay down when safe to do so and provide breaks as needed. In addition, we have invested in products such as anti fatigue mats, happy hoodies and shushies, special bellybands and grooming hammocks that are designed to assist in making grooming more comfortable for your pup.

It is recommended that you groom your dog every 4 – 8 weeks depending on the breed, coat and lifestyle. Brushing is essential for at home maintenance to avoid matting. Nail trims can be done every 2 – 4 weeks.

The grooming process can be intimidating for some dogs. Some might only react aggressively to some parts of their body, example their front paws. Depending on how aggressive the dog is, we can try to use safety tools to protect both the groomer and dog such as muzzles and elizabethan collars. If your pet becomes extremely aggressive during the groom, and we are unable to complete the entire groom safely, the client will be charged for the full price of the groom. If your pet can be managed with safety tools, there will be an additional charge based on extra time and care needed.

Pup Care by Dani is currently one groomer that offers unrushed appointments so each dog must be able to be handled by one person. As we grow, we will start accepting dogs over this weight limit.

Ideally between 2 and 4 months old (after they receive their second set of shots). During your puppy’s first groom we will take extra time and care to introduce the sounds of the scissors, sounds and vibration of the clipper and brushing. Some ways we do this is by running the clipper over his/her body, opening and closing the scissors. This will help to desensitize your pup to the grooming process so he/she can learn that it is a part of a healthy lifestyle and learn to enjoy it. It is encouraged that you start the desensitization process at home prior to grooming to set your puppy up for success. For example you can play with your puppy’s paws, touch their ears, use your fingers as scissors and pretend scissoring around the face.

The exact timing will be unique to your pet. At Pup Care by Dani we focus on quality over quantity and the comfort of your pet. If we find that your pup is becoming a bit anxious or tired from standing, we will remove him/her from the grooming table to give them a break. We will try different techniques to ensure your pup is as comfortable as possible.  A full groom can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours.

We recommend taking your pup for a long potty walk right before drop off.  If possible, lots of play time so that they can be calmer during grooming.

Pup Care by Dani will always choose humanity over vanity! If your pup’s coat is too matted and we are unable to save the coat, the only option would be to go short and start fresh! For more information on matts, please click here.

It is recommended that you go to your vet for this procedure. As a groomer it is not medically safe to express anal glands.

Grooming can be a very bonding experience. By sticking with the same groomer, your dog will build a beautiful relationship with the groomer, allowing your dog to feel at ease and comfortable. This in turn makes grooming a pleasant and enjoying experience as it becomes normal and routine. Dogs thrive off of routine!

It is important for puppies to get acquainted and stick with the same groomer so that they become comfortable with grooming. For that reason, we prefer not to take on puppies that will be larger than 40 pounds when full grown at this time.
